Ever since I was able to drive, I always knew India Street was a cool place to hang out. It was a little funky and bohemian. Nothing much as changed about it and people still crowd the parking for a chance to eat at one of the restaurants.
Now living up the hill from this part of town, I don’t often go here and I take it for granted. But last night, I couldn’t resist the Pad Thai Throwdown held at Saffron.
Alchemy, Saffron and Craft & Commerce all participated in the throwdown. For $3, you could get a taste of each version of pad thai with 10% profit benefitting Fruit of the Soul’s school programs. Additionally, all participants got to vote on who made the best pad thai. The winner at the end of the night was Chef Ricardo Heredia with Alchemy!
It was a great opportunity to get out on Monday night and taste some great — and very different versions — of pad thai from some breakout restaurants in San Diego. And also a delicious way to support Fruit of the Soul.
Saffron continues the trend thru Friday celebrating their 25 years in business — a monumental milestone in any business!!!
Tonight is random roll-back prices — drawings for an opportunity to eat food at their original 1985 prices will happen all day long.
On Wednesday night, all kids eat free, starting at 5 p.m. until closing.
All noodle dishes on Thursday night are $2 off from 5 p.m. until closing.
And the celebration ends Friday night with Thai dancers and a street food market from 6-8 p.m. on the patio area. Food to be served include roast duck with pineapple green curry, coconut custard pudding and coconut macaroons.

So who won?
I wish I knew, bro!
I guess everybody who had a taste of each for just only 3 bucks won!
Oh, I bet it was tasty.
YUM!!
Hey! We were there too. Alchemy won by unanimous vote!!
That’s good to know! I thought all versions of pad thai were awesome but I voted for Alchemy too.
