New Home and Renovation: The Work Ahead of Us

Keys

It’s with great pleasure (and not to mention a lot of stress) that Paul and I have purchased our first home. We wavered on buying a place for a while, especially after the rent on our condo spiked. But just as interest rates hit an all-time low, we could no longer ignore the benefits of homeownership.

When people tell you it’s one of the most stressful things in life to experience, they weren’t overstating it. We experienced many sleepless nights and spilled some tears. When my friend and fellow blogger, Leanne of Three Dog Kitchen, told me that once you start seriously looking the process goes by fast, she wasn’t joking. We found and closed on a place in a little over a month.

Our next step? Renovation. While I have a laundry list of things I would like to have completed before we move in, we realized that unless we had endless money (we don’t) and time (ditto), we couldn’t get it all done over the next few weeks. We’re setting priorities on what to get 100% completed with firm deadlines.

So if you’re here just for recipes or restaurants, fear not. Those will appear though maybe less frequently depending on how much time I have. But if you love renovation stories — good and bad — stay tuned.

(Family and friends — If you’re finding out about our new digs this way, please rest assured that a change of address will be headed your way soon. And after we get several years of missed Christmas cards out in the mail.)

  1. Congrats, Darlene! My husband and I have been looking, too, but things are moving too quickly for us right now. Hopefully, we’ll be just as stressed as you and Paul are soon! 😉

    Good luck with the renovations!

    1. Thanks, Lorena. Admittedly, it was so overwhelming for us when we starting looking last fall that we put the search on hold temporarily until last month. And we’re so glad we did. I think we were better prepared this time around. Good luck in your search!

  2. Yay! Congrats! I’m happy for you both, and it will be fun to have you in the neighborhood! I was serious when I said we’d be happy to lend you any tools, my husband has a garage full, and a lot of knowledge from remodeling our place 🙂

  3. Congrats on your new house! Just read your other post (ugh, that carpet story! blowtorch time!)…Seriously, so happy that you guys were able to get a place so quickly!
