Mom and Mexican food

Haven't really been cooking this week on account of my mom visiting. She wanted Mexican food so we've been having at least one meal a day dedicated so something Mexican. A brief rundown of what we ate included carne asada chips, lobster burritos, carne asada tacos, carnitas (pork) burritos, scallop tacos and loads and loads... Continue Reading →

I need, I want more cookbooks!

Went to the bookstore today and perused the cookbook section. My collection is severly lacking. Possibly because I've moved around so much and have whittled it down to almost nothing. Second is that I rely heavily on checking allrecipes.com and the Food section in the paper. The paper source is easy to explain since I... Continue Reading →

Shameful!

Hinted to my other half that I really, really wanted a heart shaped boxed full of chocolates for Valentine's Day. Specified the more elaborate the box, the better! Never received a heart-shaped box in the past and just desperatedly wanted the container. The chocolates were so yummy that soon it started to dwindle. Priorities changed... Continue Reading →

Current food obsession

I should have bought boxes upon boxes of the new Frosted Mini Wheats that include Vanilla Créme (notice it's créme not cream). At Albertson's they are now going for about $3.99 a box rather than 2 for $3 -- doesn't help that I go through two boxes a week which can really add up. But... Continue Reading →

Lost my appetite

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner Naked? NEW YORK (Reuters) - The diners arrived at a nice Manhattan restaurant on a cold February night and stripped off coats, hats, gloves and scarves. They didn't stop there. Skirts, shirts, pants, underwear and stockings all ended up stashed in plastic bags by the bar as the patrons got... Continue Reading →

Rocky road marshmallows

Here is a close up of the marshmallows. Square (I used a pizza cutter) yet not cut straight because of the almonds and chocolate chips.Recipe here. Tried a variation that omitted vanilla and added sliced almonds and chocolate chips before pouring into pan.

Marshmallow mess

The problem of my job is being exposed to food articles of my choice or not. If I have time, I often peruse the wires for either travel, art, state and food articles. Friday was slow and this recipe for homemade marshmallows grabbed my attention. I had seen organic marshmallows being sold at Whole Foods... Continue Reading →

Taste of Chantico

Starbucks has new drink: Chantico. They're advertising it as a drinkable chocolate. So course I had to try it. First of all, it's a teeny, tiny cup. Despite it size (think two expresso cups), the entire caloric count is almost 400 calories! The calories apparently come from the heavy cream and cocoa butter are whipped... Continue Reading →
