This sort of follows up on my last post on food while traveling. My travels are usually for fun and throw out all common sense regarding how healthy I should eat out the window. Where’s the fun if I stick to my same food regime at home?
But this time around I didn’t go international but to Detroit. Home of Motown, the Lions and my brother. There was a two hour layover at Chicago before the final stop in Detroit. I had my heart set on a deep dish pizza but settled on a Superdawg with all the trimmings. Trimmings includde a neon green relish, chopped onions, banana peppers, a pickle and yellow tomatoes. The hotdog itself was on a bed of crinkle french fries — my favorite. Not bad and I felt like it was a little hotdog salad on top of a bun.
But the piece de la resistance of the entire trip were the tiger tails. I’ve never been able to find any place that serves them but in Greek bakeries in Detroit. Essentially, they are sot cannolis filled with a chocolate mousse with both ends dipped in chocolate to hold the mousse in.
