Cupcakes (again) and a star sighting

Birthday cupcakes for me! Forget about the tried but true ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. I wanted cupcakes! Yummy Cupcakes in Burbank seems so common. Auntie Em’s cupcakes just seemed too big. Yet I still hadn’t tried Sprinkles Cupcakes in Beverly Hills.

This past Sunday, I ventured off to Beverly Hills. Breakfast? Bah! It’s my birthday damn it and for breakfast I demand cupcakes!! If they are good enough for Oprah, they are certainly good enough for me.

Sprinkles Cupcake exterior

Sprinkles Cupcakes is housed in a chic brown building with a simple neon signage with their name. I couldn’t help but think of chocolate frosting with pink icing. For that time of day, parking was a breeze. A warning that there is some suspected prostitute action going on some street corners but I could have also been delirious with hunger.

Cupcakes galore inside! Who knew that cupcakes could be so fashionable? There were two in our party and we split three cupcakes: red velvet, peanut butter and a black and white (dark chocolate with vanilla icing). They were about a dollar more than any other place in Los Angeles but I guess the rent had to be paid some way.

The cupcake themselves were passable. Auntie Em’s still holds the number one spot in my stomach but these were definitely pretty to look at. What I loved the most were the disposable wooden untensils. Certainly, cupcakes weren’t meant to be eaten with a fork but they were just so cool that I had to smuggle a fork in my purse.

As for the star sighting, paying $3 for a glass of milk didn’t do it for us. Apparently they needed discount drug stores in Beverly Hills because Rite Aid was a block away. We wandered over there on our sugar high but who should be buying there potato chips than Jenna Fischer, the receptionist from “The Office.” Didn’t feel a need to talk to her but I did note that she liked Ruffles too.
