When did Pocky start to come out with different varieties?

At the risk of starting a ‘When I was a kid…’ story, there was only two types of Pocky available: chocolate and strawberry. That’s it.

Now there is almond, milk, creme brulee, pudding and the list goes on and on and on. The most confounding type available is Men’s Pocky which I did taste — there is something sinister about trying something made only for the opposite sex — a Pocky stick enrobed in dark chocolate. I can only wonder why the makers thought dark chocolate would be appropriate for men. Perhaps dark chocolate translates into mysterious, manly, testosterone???
