This year many people stopped at the Paul’s booth in small press asking where I was — specifically because I was featured in this strip. It left me a bit uneasy because the booth is all about Cool Jerk. I really don’t have anything to do with it except occasionally making change out of large bills, babysitting the table or having a place to rest my weary feet. But I changed my opinion when his readers and friends starting bringing food for us. One reader, Nathan, even got us a waffle maker as a belated wedding gift!
It was all touching and extremely generous. I’d made up my mind that I wanted to make fresh waffles and bring them to the convention on Sunday. But the late nights visiting friends caught up with me — I slept in. The recipe I had in mind took 30 minutes to prep and I barely had enough time to get ready to head downtown. So instead I brought in reheated Eggo waffles.
I don’t think it bothered anyone that they were frozen earlier that morning since we had maple syrup brought to us straight from Canada from our friend Robyn. It sure beats spending $3 for a can of Barq’s root beer that I paid for later that day.

OMG! I love Pocky!
I'm curious – how does the waffle maker work? I've been looking at the VillaWare one on Amazon.
